Delaware Oral Health Coalition
Background and Overview
The Delaware Oral Health Coalition (DOHC) evolved from the
work of the Dental, Medical, Educational and Childcare
Communities in Delaware who came together at the December 2004
Oral Health Summit and the June 2005 Head Start Oral Health
Forum to develop a common set of strategies to improve the
State’s oral health.
Today’s oral health problems are complex and require
cooperative action by many organizations. Many communities
offer limited opportunities to get information on the benefits
of good oral health. Many do not have enough dental health
professionals to meet community needs. Developing creative
solutions to these problems often requires involvement by all
levels of our communities, and an understanding of each
community’s diverse cultural and social make-up.
The Delaware Oral Health Coalition is open to all
interested individuals and organizations who wish to
participate in planning, developing and implementing
strategies to further the mission of the Coalition.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Delaware Oral Health Coalition is to
provide leadership and advocacy so that the people of Delaware
can access affordable, quality oral health care. Emphasis is
placed on early prevention and maintenance as they contribute
to total health and well being. The mission will be achieved
through:
• A committed group of
individuals and organizations seeking to improve oral health
in Delaware. • Innovative
action and results that can be operationally and financially
sustained. • Partnerships
that influence and legislate
change. • Collaborative
opportunities for service delivery, health promotion, and
research.
Vision Statement
The Delaware Oral Health Coalition envisions:
Delaware, the First State to ensure optimal oral health
for everyone!
